Foxglove
Foxglove, 2023, Mixed media Collage, 12 x 16 in
“Do you move forward in time, or does time move through you?”
When you are young you want everything to stay exactly as it is. Death compels a shift in perspective and forces us to confront the relentless march of time. To move forwards, recognising the past and also grasping that life is all the more beautiful because it is fleeting.
This is not that story.
The act of creating this artwork is my rebellion against moving forward. Here I have carefully collected ephemera and handwriting, honouring my heritage with nostalgic colour and ink drawing to convey concepts of connection to place, innocence, memories, and youth - An artefact of my futile fight to preserve and hold on to all of this.
I’ve always had a hard time letting go.
